The Aydın Doğan Award, which is given every year to reward individuals and institutions that have won praise in national and international platforms in various fields such as culture, art, literature, science, and is seen as one of the most prestigious awards in Turkey is given on the topic of "Earthquake Research" to Istanbul Technical University Eurasia Earth Sciences Institute.
The Aydın Doğan Award, which has been awarded since 1996, is given every year to reward individuals and institutions that have won praise in national and international platforms in various fields such as culture, art, literature, science; is decided to be given to "Earthquake Research" this year for reasons of the need to emphasize the earthquake reality of our country and its importance by keeping it up-to-date. The Foundation Board of Directors has selected Istanbul Technical University Eurasia Earth Sciences Institute as the recipient of the 24th Aydın Doğan Award.
The Aydın Doğan Award to be given in the field of "Earthquake Research" in 2020 for reasons of the need to emphasize the earthquake reality of our country and its importance by keeping it up-to-date; as a result of the interviews and evaluations made with the experts. The award is defined by analyzing the earthquakes that occurred, collecting and archiving the information, and working to inform the scientific world and society. In the light of this information, it was decided to give the award to the Istanbul Technical University Eurasia Earth Sciences Institute, which tried to determine the location and severity of a possible earthquake and carried out such research with internationally successful studies in the light of the data obtained from the sea and land.
The Aydın Doğan Award is held to honor the Founder and Honorary President of the Foundation, Aydın Doğan; and the category of awards are decided by the Foundation Board of Directors every year.
About Istanbul Technical University Eurasia Earth Sciences Institute
The Eurasian Institute of Earth Sciences (AYBE) was established in 1997 as a research and graduate education institute directly affiliated to the Rectorate of the Istanbul Technical University (ITU). As one of the most important milestones of late Turkish Geology, the Institute established under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. İhsan Ketin and in coordination with a group of nationally and internationally renowned scientists who continue their research in the Department of General Geology of the ITU Faculty of Mining, with the mission of carrying out multidisciplinary research on earth under one roof, and started its educational activities in 1998 by accepting its first students.
The Institute conducts research on the geology, geophysics, atmospheric and ocean sciences of the Eurasian Continent and the surrounding seas, and provides postgraduate education in these subjects. Institute views Earth in relationship with solid, liquid, and gas segments and the living creatures living here as a whole. It has undertaken the task of being a center of excellence for multidisciplinary research and researchers based on the culture of basic science and informatics. With this position, ITU Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences is the first and only research institution in our country on this subject.
