The Aydın Doğan Foundation has published a Needs Assessment Report prepared within the framework of the “Empowered Girls, Empowered Futures” project, implemented under the European Union-funded Grant Program for Supporting Rights-Based Civil Society Organizations Working in the Field of Social Inclusion and Youth. The report aims to comprehensively examine the empowerment processes of young women and girls in Türkiye and to identify the challenges and opportunities they encounter in areas such as gender equality, economic, social and political empowerment, and leadership.
Conducted by Dissensus Research, the analysis serves as an important guide for shaping strategic steps aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment in Türkiye. The Needs Assessment began with a review of the literature on the empowerment of girls and young women and the development of their leadership skills both globally and in Türkiye, followed by an evaluation of findings derived from field research. These studies were carried out using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were collected through “Surveys”, "Focus Group Discussions”, and “In-depth Interviews” conducted as part of the fieldwork.
As part of the survey study, a total of 2,614 surveys were conducted with young women aged 18 and over and with civil society organizations across Türkiye. Of these, 2,304 surveys were carried out with young women, while 310 were conducted with civil society organizations. Focus group discussions were held once with girls under the age of 18, young women aged 18 and over, and representatives of civil society organizations. In addition, four in-depth interviews were conducted with girls under 18, six with young women aged 18 and over, and ten with representatives of civil society organizations.
This comprehensive report has been prepared drawing on the findings of both the literature review and the field research conducted for the Needs Assessment. The report is expected to serve as a highly valuable resource for civil society organizations working in the fields of gender equality and the empowerment of young women. It is also intended to guide the strategic planning processes of relevant organizations and to make a meaningful contribution to the leadership journeys of girls and young women.
