Winners of the "National Comic Book" award were announced in the Aydın Doğan International Cartoon Competition, where the field of work for awards was expanded last year. ‘And Sinem’ by Cihan Kılıç and ‘Gozo and Sagre’ by Uğur Erbaş won the award.
This year’s jury of the Aydın Doğan National Comic Book Award, consisting of an important artist and academics Levent Cantek, Latif Demirci, Ersin Karabulut, Piyale Madra, Umut Südüak, and Başak Ürkmez, among the comic books published in the past five years by national publishing houses, selected ‘And Sinem’ by Cihan Kılıç, ‘Gozo and Sagre’ Uğur Erbaş; and decided that the award should be split between these two artists.
'And Sinem' is a work that stands out among comics magazines with its ability to use its youthful language by associating it with actual life, and because it has a story structure that continues our underground-leaning comic book tradition and succeeds in being new; and on the other hand, 'Gozo and Sagre' depicts another world in a way that resembles the world we live in. Showing the "history of civilization" with a rare story depth; the calm and composed but strong storyline as different characters come into play; its ironic language and that it is a quality example of a graphic novel; has deemed both pieces worthy of the Aydın Doğan National Comic Book Award.
By adding new opportunities to our work, we aim to increase our support in the field of art and creativity, to create opportunities for the development of these new fields with the cooperation of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, to create interactions between experienced jury members and award winners, and to contribute to the production of children's books and comics at the national level.
