Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı

The 5th Aydın Doğan Award, which is given every year to reward individuals and institutions that have won praise in national and international platforms in various fields such as culture, art, literature, science, is given to Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı in the field of ”History”, in the year 2001.


The 2001 Award Selection Committee consisting of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Akyıldız, Prof. Dr. Nurhan Atasoy, Prof. Dr. Mahir Aydın, Murat Bardakçı, Dr. Filiz Çağman, Prof. Dr. Edhem Eldem, Prof. Dr. Özer Ergenç, Doğan Hızlan, Orhan Koloğlu, Dr. Nazan Ölçer and Prof. Dr. Mete Tuncay; has deemed Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı as the recipient of the year’s award, thanks to not only his work titled "Family in Ottoman History”, but also his studies in the field of history, the articles and books he published since the early 1970s, his efforts to spread and create awareness about the science of history, his activities to introduce history to Turkish people of all ages, his scientific activities abroad and his efforts to establish Turkish historiography in the international arena.
