Ara Güler

The 1999 Selection Committee consisting of Şakir Eczacıbaşı, Prof. Dr. Ali Akay, Alev Ebüzziya, Prof. Dr. Jale Erzen, Prof. Meriç Hızal, Doğan Hızlan, and Prof. Hüsamettin Koçan; selected Ara Güler as the recipient of the year’s award; for his original works in the field of photography in the early 1950s, his original perspective, sensitivity, and innovations and the original view he brought to people and subjects that can be shared universally, the work he has produced at the same level as photographers who are prominent in the world within his generation, his introduction of Turkish photography to the world, and never compromising his art and being a strong role model to the new generation photographers.
