Sculpture: Seyhun Topuz
The 2008 Aydın Doğan Award was given for Sculpture, where Seyhun Topuz was deemed worthy of the award for his contributions to the modern art of sculpture by maintaining and improving the abstract-minimalist discipline, and for his rigorous work in the field to date.
The selection committee for 2008’s Aydın Doğan Award included Prof. Dr. Ali Teoman Germaner, Prof. Dr. Rahmi Aksungur, Mehmet Ergüven, Prof. Dr. Meriç Hızal, Doğan Hızlan, Prof. Dr. Hüsamettin Koçan, Prof. Dr. Kaya Özsezgin, Prof. Dr. Günsel Renda and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zeynep Yasa Yaman.
Seyhun Topuz was born in 1942 and graduated from the Department of Sculpture of the State Fine Arts Academy. He worked as an assistant between 1974-1978 at the same institution and completed his dissertation thesis in 1977. He continued his work in New York between 1978 and 1980, and between 1983 and 1984. He worked with Jose de Creeft at “Art Students League” between 1978 and 1980. Seyhan Topuz continues his freelance career in İstanbul.
